Reagan, Ronald Wilson (b. 1911), 40th
President of USA (1981-89). He was the Hollywood film actor prior to the
beginning of political activity; he has taken part in 53 films. He began
political activity in 1966 and was elected the governor of state
California (1967); he has stayed on this post of 8 years. After
unsuccessful attempt become the president of USA in 1976 he has made new
attempt in 1980 and he was elected, and in 1984 he is re-elected on the
supreme state post of the country. Eight-year stay of Reagan on a
presidential post was marked both extreme intensity of the Soviet-American
relations (1981-85), and appreciable shift aside their normalization (after
1985). The characteristics given by Reagan to Soviet Union ("empire
of evil"), to the Soviet leaders ("they have reserved behind
themselves the right to make any crime to lie and deceive") and the
Soviet-American confrontations (struggle "between the truth and a lie,
goods and evil"), have complicated for a long time uneasy
Soviet-American relations in first half 80th. His application is typical
of this period of presidency Reagan
concerning impossibility to negotiate from the USSR: "it is
impossible to go on compromises with people denying existence oppress, the
outdoors world and the God". His statement: "Such fact that
anybody for us is not pleasant to other system can not form the basis for
refusal of negotiations", becomes more characteristic for second half
of presidential term of Reagan. In 1985-88 Reagan has taken part in 4
official and 1 informal meetings at the summit with M.S. Gorbachev and for
the first time in the life he has paid a visit to Moscow (1988). At the
same time, many Americans frequently attribute a main role in
disintegration of the Soviet state as superpowers to the period of
Reagans stay on a presidential post, to his personal qualities and the
policy that his administration spent to a concerning the USSR. It affirms
that administration of Reagan has caused irreparable damage to difficulty
Soviet ecology by the hard line and imposed by him to Soviet Union race of
