15, 1962 Anatoly Dobrynin has arrived to Washington as the Soviet
ambassador. Before departure Moscow he has visited of N.S.Khrushchev. The
order of the last was vigorous: is firm to protect and advance interests
of Soviet Union and "to not give in on provocation". At the
same time unusual council has sounded also: "to not be lifted up
without need". Khrushchev has directly told, that war from USA is
inadmissible, and it - the main thing. Then he has assessed the
soviet-American relationship. He spoke, as always, emotionally. Primary
goal on that moment in the soviet-American relationship he put to the
decision of the German question and a problem of the Western Berlin. He
has told about president Kennedy, that though the president is young, but
"strong-willed person". Jacqueline

last letters which I shall write on these forms of the White house, I
would like to write to you this message. I send it only because I know,
how strongly my husband cared of the world and with what central a place
in this borrowed in his ideas of the relationship between you and him. He

your help. I send this letter because I so deeply realize importance of
relationship that existed between you and my husband and also because you
and Mrs. Khrushchev were so are kind to me in Vienna. I read, that on her
eyes there were tears when she left the American embassy in Moscow after a
list in the book of condolences. Please, tell her thank for it.

In a public opinion these sad days there was extraordinary favorable "a phenomenon of memory" late president. The phenomenon consist that this benevolence has arisen in spite of the fact that in the soviet-American relationship in Kennedys period like anything especially large has not taken place. There was everyone: serious Cuban crisis and the agreement on prohibition of nuclear tests, intensity around of the Western Berlin and the agreement over Laos. As whole relationships were not so steady, were exposed to different fluctuations. What is a root of this phenomenon? It is thought, that a main role the Cuban crisis and personal tragedy of president Kennedy here have played. Within one week this dangerous crisis held all world on the verge of war and peoples of our both countries in a huge pressure. Everyone was shocked. All with general simplification met happy end of crisis. But simultaneously for all there was clear a vital necessity of stable soviet-American relationship, irrespective of ideological belief. |
